These are the artworks of Jeremy Van der want… who also goes by the name ‘goodbye child’. This name is chosen because so many of the Artist’s subjects landscapes, wildlife and natural beauty have disappeared under the advance of economic pressure and human greed. They are an honest, loving farewell made in full understanding of the death sentence of ecocide but resolutely focussed on the joy that remains to life on Earth. The paintings are a celebration of joy despite the fact of inevitable loss. Loss is a part of life and the key to living life well is in paying homage to the good, the beautiful, the graceful, the quirky, the interesting. I do not need to know that my soul is ugly or deep but I do feel an urge, a compulsion, to mark my respect for the wonder and love that natural creatures and spaces inspire in me. I do not paint to honour humankind; or even to plumb the depths of our souls. I simply paint to mark respect for that which I paint.
