Hogsback Artist
As an artist I find that the environment in the Eastern eastern Cape mountains above the village of Hogsback is rather inspiring the light is quite beautiful and the Flora and Fauna available to see are quite extraordinary. I find myself devoting much of my time to the art of carving wood. I have made several successful pieces a sculpture, one of a group of diving dolphins and then also a sculpture of a touraco or loerie as well as the one I’m working on now which is the sculpture of a hawk poised upon an updraft of wind. Rather a challenge to carve the shape of wind but I feel like I’m getting there. Perhaps when this one is complete I will earn myself the title of Hogsback Artist.
Notwithstanding my one hundred percent truthful account of the bizarre behaviour of some locals following my hugging of my friends. I have enormously enjoyed making art in Hogsback. I think it is a shame that the village is so badly marred by the trance rave nonsense drug bullshit culture that centres around the red blah blah cafe and its associates. If you visit Hogsback please look deeper. There are people here who are not shallow and addled. They also need support.
Hogsback Artist right at the top of the hill.

This particular Hogsback Artist spends each afternoon at the top of the hill collecting the last days of sunlight and crafting a piece of timber to reflect my joy and my sadness at losing yet another day, and gaining it too. Life passes quickly day by day and it had best be appreciated. Spend your time on this earth wisely. Be joyful. Make love and make art! Not everybody has the opportunity and if you find yourself having it don’t be spiteful don’t be selfish share the joy and make as much as you can out of the life you’ve got. Picking on people and victimizing people is a waste of time. Making art and sharing the experience of being privileged enough to be alive on this planet looking at these extremely beautiful spaces is worth celebrating together.
