Vanderwant at the Hamilton gallery
South African artist Jeremy Vanderwant is very pleased to be accepted to exhibit art works at the Hamilton gallery in Wolf Street Cape Town. The two pieces on display at the gallery are concerned with the love of nature and the riddle of our cooperation with it. Looking for water is a painting about the history and the beauty and tragedy of the human interaction with the natural world. The painting is of an antique water tower out of which a tree grows while a bee looks for water. The colours and tones suggest an ethereal and cool atmosphere. The human element, the tower, is beautiful, yet the title and the presence of the bee suggest a tragic cruelty. That nature goes without water because of human activity.
Fireflight is an abstraction of flame and leaves, also beautiful but inspired by the burning of forests around the world. The artist observes that even in the terrible process of fire, beauty and grace are present. The artist does this in a personal effort to find grace even in the tragic.
Hamilton gallery is an intriguingly eclectic and well curated space on Wolfe street in Cape town South Africa where the intelligentsia of Cape Town appreciate art. The artworks can also be viewed online at https://www.hamiltongallery.co.za/artists/jeremy-van-der-want/
