JeremyVan der want is a South african painter. His artwork is concerned with the bringing of joy to and marking of respect for the natural condition of the planet itself (landscape) and the creatures who live here. Jeremy considers painting to be a meditative and contemplative act of seeking joy. Poetic and heartfelt, the representational artworks attempt to portray the natural spaces the artist spends time in through the child like gaze of the innocent we would all like to be. The artist accepts that all this will pass and wants only to create a remembrance without self indulgent grief or introspection. Authentic experiences in nature are becoming rarer each year. The environment that taught humanity what grace and beauty can be is under threat. It is heartbreaking. Jeremy tries to hold on to the joy of how life on Earth can be while still being truthful. Human subjects are rendered divorced from landscape. Animals imbued with personality are also rendered as seperate from the earth. Landscapes are painted without human or animal presence. All divorced from each other yet loved by the painter.
